Preserving the Beauty and Legacy of Stained Glass
For more than two decades, the American Consultation on Stained Glass (ACSG) has helped churches, temples, and historic buildings across the United States understand, preserve, and plan for their stained glass windows. From historical research and condition evaluations to insurance replacement-cost assessments and restoration planning, ACSG provides independent guidance grounded in decades of stained glass experience.
Whether your windows need restoration, protection, documentation, or simply a better understanding of their history and significance, we're here to help.
Why Churches Choose ACSG
Stained glass windows are often among a church's most treasured assets—artistically, historically, and spiritually. Yet many congregations are uncertain about their windows' condition, significance, replacement value, or restoration needs.
ACSG serves as a trusted advisor, helping churches make informed decisions about the care and preservation of their stained glass. Because we are independent consultants, our recommendations are focused on what is best for your windows and your congregation.
Our Services
We document and evaluate stained glass windows, helping churches better understand their condition, craftsmanship, historical significance, and preservation needs.
Insurance Replacement-Cost Assessments
ACSG provides estimates of the cost to replicate stained glass windows in the event of a catastrophic loss. These assessments can help churches and insurance providers establish appropriate coverage levels and plan for the future.
Restoration Planning
Not sure where to begin with a restoration project? ACSG can help develop restoration priorities, review proposals, and connect churches with qualified stained glass studios and conservation professionals.
Protective Glazing Consultation
We evaluate existing protective glazing systems and provide recommendations for protecting stained glass while maintaining proper ventilation and long-term preservation.
Historical Research
Many churches know little about the origins of their windows. ACSG can help uncover the stories behind the artists, studios, and history that make each window unique.
Decades of Specialized Experience
ACSG combines scholarly research with hands-on stained glass expertise.
Carrie Crow Thiele entered the stained glass field in 2005 under the mentorship of Dr. Gary Gray, founder of ACSG. Together they authored The Stained Glass Appraisal Guide and The Stained Glass Bible, resources that have helped churches and stained glass professionals better understand the history, preservation, and valuation of stained glass windows.
Consultant Kelly Hilburn brings nearly 30 years of experience in stained glass installation, fabrication, restoration, and building preservation. His practical knowledge of stained glass construction and restoration provides valuable insight for churches facing repair or preservation decisions.
Together, ACSG has served hundreds of churches and religious institutions across the country.
